Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, has replaced its short-lived Bard service, which was launched in December to compete with chatbots like ChatGPT. However, Bard failed to impress in demos, leading Google staff to criticize CEO Sundar Pichai for the botched launch.
Now rebranded as Gemini, Google claims it represents their most capable family of models for natural conversations. Gemini offers two experiences: Gemini Advanced and a mobile app.
Gemini Advanced features Ultra 1.0, Google’s largest and most capable AI model. In blind evaluations, third-party raters preferred Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 for complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, and creative collaboration.
The AI can function as a personalized tutor, generating customized lessons and quizzes, and assisting developers with tricky coding problems. It’s designed to spark ideas and strategize ways for creators to grow their audiences.
Google plans to enhance Gemini Advanced’s capabilities over time, adding exclusive features such as expanded multimodal interactions, interactive coding, deeper data analysis, and more language support, with already available support for over 150 countries in English.
