Spotify is reportedly testing a new feature that allows users to create playlists through artificial intelligence (AI) prompts. The feature, called “AI playlists,” curates playlists based on the listener’s prompts, as opposed to the existing Niche Mixes feature, which uses algorithms to curate playlists based on genres, moods, and occasions. The AI playlist feature may be linked to another Spotify feature called Blend, which allows users to invite others to create AI playlists together. Spotify has been testing AI-powered features on its platform for quite a while now, including the AI DJ, which imitates the radio stations with an AI-powered voice and plays users’ favorite songs, and Voice Translation, which translates podcasts into additional languages. The company has a dedicated team to understand “all the possibilities across Large Language Models, across generative voice, across personalization”. However, not all features found in the code make it to the final stage and are rolled out.
